I was the dramaturg for a workshop of The Girls Project by Stephanie Henderson, which is being developed by Resounding Scream Theatre.
The Girls Project explores four iconic literary characters—Ophelia, Juliet, Iphigenia and Cassandra—all of whom are flirting with the line between girlhood and womanhood. Though many things exist comparing and contrasting the lives of these ladies, one through-line connects all of their stories: they each make sacrifices for the betterment of a man. In the light of recent bullying tragedies, Resounding Scream Theatre believes that now, more than ever, we need to explore why girls make the decisions they do. The company's hope is to use the play as a springboard to opening conversations with girls and better understanding bullying culture.
